Digital interface for bi-directional communication between a computer and a peripheral device

    Get PDF
For transmission of data from the computer to the peripheral, the computer initially clears a flipflop which provides a select signal to a multiplexer. A data available signal or data strobe signal is produced while tht data is being provided to the interface. Setting of the flipflop causes a gate to provide to the peripherial a signal indicating that the interface has data available for transmission. The peripheral provides an acknowledge or strobe signal to transfer the data to the peripheral. For transmission of data from the peripheral to the computer, the computer presents the initially cleared flipflop. A data request signal from the peripheral indicates that the peripheral has data available for transmission to the computer. An acknowledge signal indicates that the interface is ready to receive data from the peripheral and to strobe that data into the interface

Foreign direct investment and transition economies: empirical evidence from a panel data estimator

This paper identifies the factors that determine FDI inflows in the former socialist countries of Eastern and Central Europe. In our analysis, FDI inflows are modeled as a function of the market size (i.e., real GDP), inflation, the current account balance, the real exchange rate, openness and government regulation for the host country. Using data from 1995 to 2004, a panel data estimator suggests that the real exchange rate, openness of the economy and deregulation are the primary factors determining FDI inflows in these countries.

In-Place Assembly and Testing of Satellites

This paper describes an innovative approach to testing satellites that reduces test flow time and risk. The approach uses a uniquely designed assembly stand, created by INTRASPACE, that accommodates the satellite assembly process as well as in-place environmental testing. The satellite is assembled, functionally tested and environmentally tested on a single assembly stand platform. The platform rotates in 2-axes to facilitate access to all areas of the spacecraft. For environmental test, a bell jar vacuum dome is placed over the spacecraft. Vacuum, Thermal Vacuum and Acoustic Testing are made possible by the modular arrangement of the dome, liquid nitrogen cold walls, quartz heating tubes and high power acoustical transducers. Since the vacuum dome is made of RF transparent material, environmental testing closely simulates the on-orbit operation. For example, this approach permits measurement of the multipacting phenomenon under actual RF link operations. The in-place test concept reduces test setup time, test breakdown time and spacecraft handling. The flow-through time saved during the test is about 250/0. The test parameters were selected using MIL-STD-1540B as a guide. The test stand has been tested to 10-6 TORR and provides for a rotisserie mode during thermal environments

    Expanding the market of biomaterials

Biomaterials such as wood and bamboo are in high demand as a building material with the push for building with green technology. The wood product industry accounts for approximately 4% of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP (Gross Domestic Product), which is more than 100billion.Theindustrysupportsover752,000full−timeequivalentjobs,mostofwhichareinruralareaswhereemploymentopportunitiesarelimited.Theestimatedglobalmarketvalueofbambooisestimatedtobe100 billion. The industry supports over 752,000 full-time equivalent jobs, most of which are in rural areas where employment opportunities are limited. The estimated global market value of bamboo is estimated to be 60 billion annually. This research will explore the use of wood and bamboo in different end use products. The objectives of this research will 1) evaluate the behavior of two single bolt connections in the post-to-rail joint in a hardwood stairway system; 2) the potential of post-treating pre-fabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with two different copper based preservative treatments; and 3) estimated design values for a commercially sourced bolt laminated bamboo industrial mat. To accomplish these objectives, this dissertation is divided into five sections: 1) Introduction, 2) Structural performance of the post-to-rail connectors in a hardwood stairway handrail, 3) Development of preservative-treated cross-laminated timber: effects of panel layup and thickness on bonding performance and durability when treated with copper-azole (CA-C) and micronized copper-azole (MCA), 4) Strength and stiffness of 3-ply industrial bamboo matting, 5) Conclusion
